About Šarišan

The artistic ensemble of Šarišan Folk Ensemble is the most well-known and successful representative of the folklore of the Šariš region and its capital town, Prešov in Slovakia. The ensemble’s program is inspired by the richness of folk traditions from the eastern Slovak regions of Šariš, Zemplín, Spiš, and Abov.

Over its 54-year existence, the ensemble has received numerous awards and titles as a laureate from prestigious domestic and international festivals. It has performed thousands of times both in Slovakia and abroad, having traveled more than 110 times and receiving applause from audiences in 40 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.

The folk music of the ensemble has released over 60 titles on various music formats, including 17 profile releases. Among the recent grand projects are the “Golden Wedding” celebration for its 50th anniversary, featuring more than 200 artists, the Christmas three-generational program “Christmas with Šarišan,” and a unique cross-genre fusion with Katarína Knechtová called “PUTO.”

Currently, the ensemble has 90 active members organized into three sections: dance, music, and singing. It is part of a three-generational model alongside the Children’s Ensemble Šarišanček and the senior ensemble FS Starišan.
